A burner card built for free trials

Sign up to any free trial without exposing your real card. Issue a card pre-loaded with $1, complete the trial, delete the card before the renewal — no recurring charge possible.

Free trials

Most free trials convert automatically at the end of the period, and most cancellation flows are deliberately designed to take five minutes longer than they should. The cleanest pattern is to never give a card that can actually be charged in full. With a burner virtual card, you issue a card pre-loaded with the minimum amount the merchant accepts (often $1), complete the trial signup, and either delete the card before the renewal or leave it empty. Either way, the auto-charge fails cleanly — no overdraft, no fees, no follow-up.

The Minimum-Load Burner Pattern

  1. 1
Issue a fresh card with the minimum platform load ($25). BIN 491653 (Visa Classic) or BIN 528410 (Mastercard Prepaid) are the lightest BINs available — ideal for trial scenarios. The $25 is not lost; it becomes your trial wallet, reusable for 6-10 future trials.
  2. 2
Sign up to the free trial. The merchant runs a $0 or $1 verification hold. With the right BIN, it clears immediately and the card is accepted.
  3. 3
Enjoy the trial. Use the service for the full trial period with no restrictions.
  4. 4
Two days before the trial ends, decide: (a) keep the service — top up the card to cover the recurring fee, or (b) cancel — delete the card from your dashboard. Remaining balance refunds to your account instantly.
  5. 5
If you forgot: The merchant attempts to charge a deleted card, the charge declines cleanly. No obligation, no negative balance, no debt.

Edge Cases & Mitigations

American media subscriptions

NYT, WSJ, and certain US-only publications refuse trials on prepaid BINs. Solution: use BIN 471938 (Visa Business) — it signals "real card" and passes their prepaid-detection filters at 85%+ rate.

AVS-required trials

Some trial flows ask for billing-address verification. Fill in any plausible US address — the card is not AVS-checked at the issuer level, so the merchant simply records whatever you enter. Use a real street name and ZIP format.

Trial-abuse detection

Some services link cards to previous accounts to detect repeat trial users. The fresh-card-per-trial pattern defeats this: each card has a unique number, expiry, CVV, and BIN suffix. No link possible between trials.

Phone-required sign-ups

CryptoCardy doesn't provide phone numbers. For trials requiring SMS verification, use a temporary SMS-receive service alongside the burner card. Two separate tools, one workflow.

Frequently asked

Common questions

What happens when the merchant tries to renew on a deleted card?

The charge declines as "card not found" or "transaction declined." Most services move the account to "payment failed — please update your payment method" status and cancel within 3-14 days.

Can I dispute a charge?

Yes, through the merchant's normal dispute process. If unresolved, contact support via the dashboard ticket system.

What if I forget to cancel and the card has balance?

The charge succeeds. You can dispute with the merchant, but funds have already left your card. Set a calendar reminder two days before trial end to avoid this.

Can I use the same card for multiple trials?

Technically yes, but it defeats the burner pattern. A fresh card per trial keeps each isolated. Some merchants flag cards appearing on multiple trial signups.

Does this work for trials requiring a phone number?

CryptoCardy doesn't provide phone numbers. For SMS-verified trials, pair with an SMS-receive service. Two tools, one workflow — the burner card handles the payment layer.
